Air compressors are versatile machines used in various industries and applications, from manufacturing and construction to automotive repair and home improvement. They play a crucial role in generating compressed air, which can power tools, clean surfaces, and even support HVAC systems. In this article, we'll explore different types of air compressors and their applications.

1. Rotary Screw Air Compressors: Rotary screw air compressors are widely used in industrial settings. They operate by trapping air between two rotating screws and gradually reducing the volume, thereby increasing the air pressure. These compressors are known for their efficiency, reliability, and continuous operation, making them ideal for manufacturing plants and large-scale applications.

2. Reciprocating (Piston) Air Compressors: Reciprocating air compressors use a piston and cylinder to compress air. They come in both single-stage and two-stage configurations, with two-stage compressors providing higher pressure. Reciprocating compressors are versatile and suitable for small workshops, garages, and construction sites.

3. Portable Air Compressors: Portable air compressors are designed for on-the-go use. They are compact and easy to transport, making them suitable for DIY enthusiasts, contractors, and outdoor enthusiasts. These compressors are commonly used for tasks like inflating tires, powering pneumatic tools, and even recreational activities like camping.

4. Refrigerated Air Dryers: Air compressors often produce compressed air with moisture, which can damage equipment and compromise the quality of the air. Refrigerated air dryers are essential accessories that remove moisture from compressed air, ensuring that it's clean and dry. These dryers are vital in industries where moisture can be detrimental, such as food processing and pharmaceuticals.

5. Oil-Free Air Compressors: In applications where contamination is a concern, oil-free air compressors are the go-to choice. They eliminate the risk of oil particles entering the compressed air, making them suitable for industries like healthcare, electronics manufacturing, and food production.

Things you need to know before calculating volume of air

What is air Receiver ?

Air receiver is a container designed to hold gases or Air at a pressure substantially different from the ambient pressure.

Air receiver/Air Tank is usually calculated in Liters or in gallons

CFM calculation

What is Air Pressure ?

An air compressor converts power into potential energy stored in pressurized air (i.e., compressed air). An air compressor forces more and more air into a storage tank, increasing the pressure. When tank pressure reaches its engineered upper limit, the air compressor shuts off.

Air Compressor is usually measured in KG sq/cm or Bar,in PSI or in MPA

What is filling time of air compressor

Filling time of air compressor is how much time air compressor is taking to fill the Air up-to the maximum design pressure

All you need to do is start filling the empty compressor i.e from 0 kg²/cm to design pressure and record the time in mins. For instance, if filling time is 200 sec than the mins will be 3.3
